The observation on medical accident upon 1679 cases who registered in emergency clinic, Chonnam University Hospital, to find out the general feature of it was carried out during the period from January to September, 1973.
The results were obtained as-follows:
1) The rate of medical accident to the total 4,551 emergency cases was 36.7% (40..8% for male, 3L 0% for female), and the highest medical accident rate (53.3%) was observed in age group 16~30, and 22.6% of total accident was happened in group under 15 years of age.
2) Leading types of medical accident were "drug ingestion", "traffic accident", "collision", "stab wound" and that accident were mostly in summer (30.6%).
3) The majority of cases were arrived at the emergency clinic in the afternoon, especially after 18 o´clook, and 67. 1% of the cases were occupied within city (Kwang-Ju).
4) The average of the accidental death in emergency clinic was 4. 10%, though variable in eath ceses. The types of high fatality were "fire-arm, caught in device object, drowning and explosive in Others", "drug ingestion", and "traffic accident" respectively.
5) In aspect of injured nature, drug intoxication (31.8%), laceration or abrasion (14.9%), fracture (14.3%), and contusion (10.6%). In kind of drug and incidence, pesticides (29.0%), hypnotics (27.5%), and rodenticides (21.2%) were predominant and frequent in summer (39.9%).
